The Colma Fire Protection District's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was started in January of 2007 as a means to prepare and train our neighbors to assist us during a disaster.
During any major disaster, public safety agencies will be completely overwhelmed with incidents that they are tasked with responding to. A well trained and established CERT team helps to alleviate some of this pressure by assisting the fire department with those incidents that they have been trained to handle. Our team members are trained in Basic Search and Rescue, Basic firefighting skills, Disaster Medicine, Incident Command and other skills which will be a valuable asset to our response to any major disaster.
